  1. It’d be great to have the Schumacher name back in F1 for a season but to be honest I can’t see the reasoning behind it. He has been out of the cars for three years and they have changed a lot since. Given how he retired, on top after winning 7 champtionships and at the pinnacle of his career, he went out on his decision. He might be incredibly bored as racing could be his life, but I think he has too much to lose and very little to gain. Last year he was the Hero until his neck wasn’t up to it. Cynics suggested that it was an excuse as he wasn’t fast enough. Look at Giancarlo, he didn’t do much at all in the Ferrari and he almost won at Spa a couple of weeks before in a Force India. He’s a pretty decent pilot, but how is Michael going to get the experience required in the car for the whole season given the testing ban and limit opportunity between the car launch and the season start? I hope he stays at Ferrari or joins the throughbred F1 series driving an early 90s Benneton if or when they are eligible. If he did come back it would be great to see him put the apparent ‘champion’ of Hamilton and the least deserving ‘champion’ (since Nelson Piquet in 1987), Jenson Button back in their British boxes. That and he could set Nico on a course for the championship and he is he future of the Mercedes team.

  2. You make some good points Greg- what does he have to prove? Surely the Ferrari salary is enough to keep him in hair product for the rest of his life?!?!
Personally I want to see him get back into it, as I truly think he will still be competitive. Actually, I would have liked to see him retire for one year, then come back in an average car to make bring that team up- never happen though.

As for undeserving champions- I hear your point. I am so glad that Hill didn’t win in 1994, or Irvine in 1999. I would nominate Hill in 1996 though- no real competition there, though he did his job and actually impressed me in the Arrows when it all came together in 1997.

  3. Think he’s earnt enough money to buy said hair product company, just because he it worth it.

If he does come back I hope he is competitive as there is very little to gain by coming back with World Champion team and doing well, like you siad it woild have been better if he came back with one of the new teams and did very well, imagine that…it might make up for 1994 and 1997 ;-)

Forgot about Hill. Though he didn’t really do anything special in his career apart from taking the arrows by the scriff of the neck and almost winning the 1997 Hungarian GP, though it may have had more to do with the new Bridgestone tyres just suiting the track surface more than the Goodyears.

If he does come back, I just hope it’s for the right reasons. What a feeling though, to have MS back on the grid and competitive!
